Fantastic early 1850s labelled with contents Canada West medicine – Dr. Beach’s Vegetable Composition. Prepared by C.S. Harris Manchester, C.W. (Canada West – the previous name of Ontario, before Canadian confederation in 1867). An utility style bottle with crude hand finished rolled lip and a tubular open pontil base. Because of the rough open pontil base the bottle does not stand up strait giving it tremendous character. Medicinal contents were sold as a certain remedy for colds, coughs, sore throat” and also for “chill fever, ague and summer complaints. Manchester was located in Oxford County close to Ingersoll, the name was later changed to Hagles Corners.
