Description

A 19th century hand-held saw for cutting a circular hole in the skull by pulling back the scalp, setting an internal spike and boring a hole through pressure and a twisting motion. The procedure removes pressure on the brain and was also believed centuries ago to treat mentally ill and exorcise demons. Made of brass and steel and features an ebony (wooden) handle with hatching to provide grip.
