Early 1900s large format photograph of a Greek Orthodox funeral. Typical of the culture and the times, a final photograph was taken of the deceased in his coffin propped up as the central figure surrounded by friends and family. The group appears to be posed in front of a residence and general store. The photographer’s bag has been left at the curb and is in the image alongside a child who apparently moved just as the photograph was taken. Profoundly sad yet celebratory. Photographer identified as Royal Studio 725 Barton St. E., Hamilton Ontario. Subtle sepia tones enhance the crisp image, good tone and composition. Very rare image.
