Bite Me! You Call Yourself a Dentist?
Turning terror
into a healthy obsession…
Who doesn’t cringe at the sound of the dentists drill? It’s a sound that easily surpasses nails on a chalkboard when it comes to skin crawling or physically wincing and yet we are easily drawn to those things that disturb us the most, and in some cases we turn that nightmare into an argueably healthy collecting obsession; after all, there’s a lot worse things you could be doing with your time. When it comes to cringe-worthy, the dental trade has no shortage of tools and implements to conjour up some dark imagery.
A few centuries ago, however, dentures were fashioned from real teeth.. Demand for human teeth rose after the deadly Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. Locals, soldiers, and scavengers scoured the battlefield to remove teeth from dead soldiers. The teeth were sent to Britain, where they sold for a fortune.
