Why run off and join the circus when the circus can come to you? What we have here is a lovely circus themed puzzle ca 1890 – 1920. The puzzle appears to be made of hand painted wooden pieces. The box is in excellent condition for its age and is beautifully designed. It reads ” Circus: please to put first the figures, using the other bricks for the ground”. Frankly were not sure what this means (puzzling indeed) but  the writing is also translated in German and French. We are assuming this is a European game, given that there is a store name plate on the inside of the box from Au Nain Bleu Paris. Along with the puzzle and box there is a photo with various possibilities for building the puzzle. A lovely sample of a vintage toy from an era gone by.
