Description

Extremely Rare Rosenthal Porcelain Hitler Plaque
A WW2 era porcelain portrait plaque of Adolf Hitler produced by prestigious porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal, who was licensed to use the image of the oil portrait painting from famous period painter/artist Willy Exner. Of all the Adolf Hitler paintings the Willy Exner example is regarded as possibly the best, the side view, collar turned up wearing political uniform, hatless is highly impressive and beautifully executed in the form of porcelain. Exner was among Hitler’s favorite artists and the Exner painting was chosen as the official state portrait and displayed in public buildings, offices and classrooms throughout Nazi Germany. At the time this was an exceptional luxurious item that was very expensive and sold in low numbers, being porcelain, very few survived the war. The reverse is plain white with the Rosenthal company logo and written in a cartouche: “Der Fuhrer Gemälde vom Willy Exner”. This exceptionally rare example retains the original RED foil Rosenthal label. Though not proven, it’s believed that the red label indicated the piece was to be given as a gift on Hitler’s behalf.
