An extremely rare original copper struck halfpenny token issued circa 1795. Diameter 30 mm. Copper metal alloy. Edge milled. Dark brown patina with reddish highlights and excellent detail; a superb example. (Outer edge) T. Hall Preserver of Birds, Beasts or Reptiles (Inner ring) Citty Road Near Finsbury Square (In the centre) The 1st Artist in Europe. (Note the spelling mistake in ‘Citty’ of the address line. (Obverse, outer rim) To the Curious Observer of Natural Phenomena (around a central image of a Toucan), when Hall issued this now extremely rare token, the display of this strange animal of New South Wales was still very much a novelty that attracted enormous public interest.
