Description
From Waggi Tribe of Black Northern Territory of S. Australia. Early Aboriginal stone bladed knives Leilira. A worked stone blade with Spinifex Resin (plant), clay and wood handle with a grass sheath. The knives were essential for butchering types of game such as possums, kangaroo, emu’s etc.. On occasions they were also used as weapons, ritualised fighting blades, initiation ceremonies etc. Australia’s Aboriginal culture probably represents the oldest surviving culture in the world, with the use of stone tool technology dating to at least 65,000 years ago.
Pre-contact refers to the British ships landing on the shores of Sydney Cove in Australia In 1788.
