Description

Circa 1840’s this commode chair is distinctly unique in that it was made specifically to accommodate husked corn cobs in a compartment in the backrest. Once the kernals of cattle corn are removed the cob is left with soft fibers that afforded a comfortable wipe. The husks were rinsed and placed back in the chair for the next ‘guest’. The cushioned seat comes off to reveal the compartment for the comode insert. When full it was brought out to the privy, rinsed and replaced. Beautiful wood craftsmanship. Has been recovered. Dimensions: 32” x 12” x 19”
