A signed 19th century Inkwell ROLAND WARD LIMITED 166 PICCADILLY. Real horse hoof encased in a decorative silver-plate mount. Missing it’s glass or metal insert James Rowland Ward (1848–1912) was a British taxidermist and founder of the firm Rowland Ward Limited of Piccadilly, London. The company specialized in and was renowned for its taxidermy work on birds, big-game trophies, decorative items from antlers, feathers, feet, skins, and tusks, and fashionable items (sometimes known as Wardian furniture) from animal parts, such as zebra and horse hoof inkwells, antler furniture, and elephant-feet umbrella stands.
