Circa 1860 CDV portrait standard dimensions of 2.5 x 4″ hand tinted young woman done by one of Hamilton’s premiere photographers. Exceptional work has gone into the hand tinting which is still very bright. Unusually clean and saturated colours.
The back is stamped with one of Milne’s more ornate stamps, MILNE / PHOTOGRAPHER / HAMILTON C.W. The C.W. refers to Canada West, the address designation given to Ontario before the Confederation of 1867.
Robert Milne was one of Hamilton’s first photographers and during the course of over 30 years became known as one of the city’s finest. He established his first of many studios in 1851 and practiced is craft through to 1883 at various addresses across the city. Collectors have been known to collect just Milne images for the many and diverse styles in back stamps.
Condition: excellent, trimmed corners, some marks and wear as seen in the images.
