Unusual and very early quack medicine bottle with complete original label for Glycerate of Arnica Compound for the Hair from Russell & Landis, Wholesale Druggists, No. 5 North 5th Street, Philadelphia. Pale aqua bottle is blown in mold with a tooled top and stands 7.5” tall. Bottle is still sealed with about 90% of the original contents intact and remnants of the original red wax seal over the cork. The bottle is free from any damage and has indented panels but is not embossed. The label has an incredible amount of information, including a testimonial from Dr. W.A. Cox (dated March 27, 1874) certifying that the compound is “entirely free of any Metal as well as from Sulphur or any earthly body”. The label goes on to claim that the “preparation is designed to remove unnatural heat from the head, stop profuse perspiration, and thereby restore a healthy circulation in the Scalp, stop hair from falling, and cure Baldness…”.
